Passengers Evacuate American Airlines Jet in Denver After Tire Fire and Landing Gear Malfunction

Updated: Aug 16

On July 26, 2025, an American Airlines flight was abruptly evacuated on the runway at Denver International Airport following a tire fire caused by a landing gear malfunction. The incident occurred as Flight 3023 prepared to depart for Miami.

According to officials, the Boeing 737 MAX 8 was accelerating on the runway when a loud noise was heard and smoke began to rise from the aircraft's undercarriage. The flight crew quickly halted the plane, and emergency slides were deployed to evacuate all 173 passengers and six crew members on board.

Emergency response teams acted swiftly, and the airport temporarily paused operations to prioritize safety. While six individuals were evaluated for minor injuries, only one person required brief hospitalization. All others were safely transported back to the terminal.

American Airlines confirmed the issue was related to the aircraft’s landing gear and praised the flight crew and first responders for their professionalism. The plane has since been removed from service for a full inspection.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched an investigation to determine the main cause of the failure.

This event highlights the importance of emergency preparedness, routine safety checks, and coordinated response in minimizing risk during high-pressure aviation situations.

Passengers were later rebooked on an alternate flight to Miami.
